Indoor Training Centre business picks up in photo roundup

When our own David Solie signed with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, it is safe to say people on the Gordie Howe Sports Complex grounds were excited and happy for him.

Solie is the veteran place kicker and punter for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Football Team, and he has worked at the Complex in the off-season for a number of years in various roles. When he isn’t working, you can find him working out at Ignite Athletics or perfecting his kicking skills at Saskatoon Minor Football Field or the Indoor Training Centre.

Over the years, he has interacted pretty much with every sporting group that has stepped foot on the Complex grounds. After signing with the Roughriders, Solie was flooded with messages of congratulations and support from people he met at the Complex.

Along with the exciting news on the CFL front, Solie had an outstanding campaign with the Huskies this past season as they advanced to the U Sports championship game – the Vanier Cup – where they lost a heartbreaker 30-24 to the Universite Laval Rouge et Or. It just seemed natural that we caught up with Solie for our main feature piece in December’s upload of the “Howe Happenings” blog.

Besides the piece on Solie, we have a photo roundup that shows the Indoor Training Centre hitting its busy season. The photo roundup checks in with outdoor photos too with a big provincial championship win by the Bishop James Mahoney High School Saints and the ski trails.

You can find these items on the “Howe Happenings” blog at howehappenings306.blogspot.com.

New content will be released on the ninth day of each month. We hope you will enjoy the stories that make up the posts on the “Howe Happenings” blog.
