The Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval is closed due to frigid weather.

Extreme cold warning continues for Saskatoon

Mother Nature is continuing to keep Saskatoon and area in a deep freeze.

Due to the extreme cold warnings issued by Environment Canada for Saskatoon, the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval has been closed since Saturday. Due to the continuation of those extreme cold warnings, the Oval will continue to be closed today and Thursday.

The Oval is closed regularly on Fridays for maintenance.

Since Saturday, Saskatoon and area has consistently been experiencing temperatures of –30 C or colder with wind chill factors making it feel like -46 C or colder.

On Thursday, Environment Canada is predicting a high of -27 C for Saskatoon with a wind chill slated to range from -39 C to -46 C. Under those conditions, frostbite to exposed skin can occur in minutes.

Please take care out there. We can’t wait to see everyone back out at the Oval, when the weather heats up a little allowing it to reopen.
