Continuing upgrades near completion

In what has been quite an adventure in 2020, we are happy to see our family here at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex continue with us on our journey forward.

As 2020 draws to a close, we want to thank all of our Donors who have supported us since we started this ambitious project way back in 2011 to revamp this sports park.

All of your contributions have got us to where we are today, and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel to complete our vision of this great facility.

We also want to thank all of the individuals and teams that utilize our facility and treat them as their own. The Gordie Howe Sports Complex Family has developed facilities that will support all of our activities and be a focal point for recreation and sport for years to come.

We also want to thank Wright Construction and all of our sub trades that have constructed our facilities. We know that come spring another chapter of our vision will be completed and enjoyed by our family.

Construction will resume in the New Year on the north side of the Complex with facilities being completed in early spring.

Operations Manager Johnny Marciniuk went on a photo tour to add to the update on those facilities.

This photo shows the west side of the Multi-sport Centre where bleachers will be installed adjacent to the track and field and Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval.

Pictured here is the north side of the Multi-sport Centre where women’s and men’s washrooms will be located along with external concession wickets. It isn’t pictured here, but the interior of the building will also feature a concession counter.

In this picture, the east side of the Multi-sport Centre is shown which is adjacent to the Cairns Field backstop. It will feature five team rooms and an umpires room.

This photo shows the rafters for the second floor of the Multi-sport Centre building that are waiting to be installed. In the background, the Nordic Ski Groomer Storage Building is shown that will be available for use next winter.

The completed storage building for the track and field and Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval is shown in this photo. At the moment, it is being utilized as a warm up shelter for speed skating and Nordic skiing for the current winter season.

Pictured in this photo is the North Ticket Sales Centre which will serve all spectators in the north side of the Complex.

The nearly completed press box for Leakos Field is pictured in this photo. It contains an area for announcers and scorekeepers on the second floor, and it also has a storage room and electrical room for the new LED field lighting.

The final photo shows off the Cairns Field storage building, which will be used for hospitality as well as tournament merchandise sales.

We are at approximately 85 per cent of our fundraising goal to complete the facility.

We wish everyone a Happy New Year, and look forward to creating new memories with you on our grounds in 2021.
