Marciniuk updates with latest photo tour

Construction action is in high gear here at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex, and a number of unsung important improvements are being made.

Crews have been busy out here building new buildings and working on improvements to the facility. Today, our Operations Manager Johnny Marciniuk took his latest photo tour, and he focused on some cool improvements that might not normally get noticed.

He brought back six pictures to share of the unsung improvements.

Artificial turf is completed on both the north and south side of the track and field track to provide a level surface for the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval along with being a comfortable surface for track athletes to enjoy during their track meets.

The Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval protective tiles are installed. The liner will be installed with the help of the Tommy Douglas Softball Academy, and when the temperatures drop, flooding will take place in anticipation of a December 15 opening.

In the two pictures above, spray seeding is taking place, which will germinate in the spring on our Nordic ski hills, landscaping and baseball diamonds.

Fencing continues to go up to help secure the site and protect athletes and spectators from errant balls from adjacent facilities.

Bleacher relocation is going on to support existing facilities.

It is an exciting time here at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex to see these construction projects and improvements going full speed ahead.

We plan to show off more construction progress in the coming weeks, so we hope you will feel free to keep checking in.
