Huskies Football Team off-season training leads photo roundup

One of Saskatoon’s most talented track and field athletes in recent years is back in the game.

Since the Track and Field Track at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex opened in March of 2019, Nicole Ostertag has been a mainstay at the facility training to go to competitions around the world. She has also competed on her home outdoor track too on a number of occasions.

In 2024, Ostertag didn’t compete in any track and field events due to injuries and illness. After a setback at a competition in April of 2025, Ostertag was all set to hang up her track and field spikes for good.

The 25-year-old elected to return to the University of Saskatchewan to begin studying in the Master of Physical Therapy program. She proceeded to talk to U of S Huskies Track and Field head coach Jason Reindl about rejoining the Huskies Women’s Team, because she had a lot of great experiences with that squad in the past.

At that point, the comeback began. Unlike the past, Ostertag wasn’t going to take part in any combined events competitions and focused on the women’s 60-metre hurdles, which helped her cut down her time spent at practice. Ostertag went on to have a fantastic season that saw her win Canada West Conference and U Sports championships in the women’s 60-metre hurdles.

Our main feature for the March upload of “Howe Happenings” is a catch up with Ostertag. The piece goes into how Ostertag rediscovered her love for track and field allowing her to have an open mind again about future possibilities in the sport.

To go with the feature on Ostertag, March’s “Howe Happenings” upload has a photo roundup that is anchored by photos of the U of Saskatchewan Huskies Football Team doing off-season training at the Indoor Training Centre. The photo roundup also has pictures of action continuing at a good pace at the Indoor Training Centre, Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval and the ski trails on the Glenn Reeve Fields with photos coming from baseball, cricket, football, skiing, softball and speed skating.

New content will be released normally on the ninth day of each month. We hope you will enjoy the stories that make up the posts on the “Howe Happenings” blog.
