Since 1980, Jeff Yausie has been a constant in the football scene in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.

Way back in the fall of 1980, Yausie began playing football in Grade 9 with the Nutana Collegiate Blues junior team. He would become the starting running back for the Blues senior team in Grade 10.

From that start, Yausie’s football life has journeyed to all sorts of different parts of the game. That includes playing defensive back for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the Saskatoon Hilltops. He also took part in regular season game action in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders and Ottawa Roughriders.

Shortly after his playing days concluded, Yausie’s work with Football Saskatchewan began. These days at age 59, he serves as the CEO of Football Saskatchewan and as the defensive coordinator with the Saskatoon Hilltops. With those roles, you can often find Yausie on the grounds of the Gordie Howe Sports Complex.

During his football journey, Yausie played a part in helping the women’s side of the sport grow. He coached his daughter, Beau, in flag football and helped the WWCFL powerhouse Saskatoon Valkyries get going.

Our main feature for the September upload of our “Howe Happening” is on Yausie and his life in football. In the piece, Yausie talks about playing football at Nutana, his playing journey in the game, how his role with Football Saskatchewan evolved over the years, how much it means for him for the women’s game to grow and rejoining the Hilltops in a coaching role in 2002. With the Hilltops, Yausie chats about the strong bond all the team’s coaches have.

To go with the feature on Yausie, September’s “Howe Happenings” upload has a photo roundup that is led by the fun that happens at the FSIN Adult Fastball Championships, which were hosted at the Complex on August 29 to 31. The photo roundup also features more action from baseball, football and softball.

New content will be released on the ninth day of each month. We hope you will enjoy the stories that make up the posts on the “Howe Happenings” blog.
