Photo roundup dominated by championship chase in football scene

Brody Boyenko experienced a tragedy to triumph WCBL season with Regina Red Sox.
The day one instructor with the Going Yard Baseball Academy was brought on as an assistant coach by the Red Sox for the 2025 WCBL campaign. The opportunity marked Boyenko’s second chance to coach in the WCBL as he served as a pitching coach with the Swift Current 57s in 2023.
Boyenko’s season with the Red Sox was far from ordinary. Right at the start of the campaign on May 29, the Red Sox were shaken by the news that 22-year-old returning right-handed pitcher and Regina product Jesse Lubiniecki died in a single vehicle roll over in Rosebud County, Montana. Lubiniecki was on his way back to Regina to rejoin the Red Sox after completing his season with the Taft College Cougars in Taft, California.
For the first time in his life, Boyenko found himself dealing with a situation where an athlete he coached or was about to coach passed away. A lot of his early season focus included helping the Red Sox players in their journeys grieving for Lubiniecki.
On the field, the Red Sox hovered around the .500 mark for most of the regular season before getting hot over the final 10 regular season contests and carrying that through to the post-season. In the post-season, the Red Sox would win their first WCBL championship since claiming back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.

Our lead story for the November upload of “Howe Happenings” is a feature on Boyenko. He talks about what his experiences were like as the Red Sox dealt with a situation no team should have to go through in dealing with Lubiniecki’s passing and ultimately rally together to win the WCBL title.
To go with the feature on Boyenko, November’s “Howe Happenings” upload has a photo roundup that is dominated by images of the championship chase from the football scene. It leads with the happenings in the female flag Toon Squad League and includes action from the 5 on 5 NFL Youth Flag Football, the Kinsmen Football League, high school football and the CJFL’s storied and historic Saskatoon Hilltops.
The “Howe Happenings” upload is coming a day early due to the fact the Hilltops are hosting the CJFL Championship Game – the Canadian Bowl – on Sunday, November 9 at 1 p.m. at Saskatoon Minor Football Field.

New content will be released normally on the ninth day of each month. We hope you will enjoy the stories that make up the posts on the “Howe Happenings” blog.
