Latest summer tradition returns for third straight year

The Spark Park Summer Sport Camps have become cemented as one of the newest traditions for the Gordie Howe Sports Complex grounds.

These camps that are provided by Ignite Athletics and the Gordie Howe Sports Complex are returning for a third straight summer having first made their debut in the summer of 2020. The coaches at Ignite Athletics oversee participants taking part in five days of fun and athletic development in weeklong sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The first week for the camps is July 4 to 8 and final week for the camps is August 22 to 26. The age groups for the camp sessions are 5 to 8 and 9 to 12.

The mission of the Ignite Athletics coaches and staff is to provide a safe and inclusive space for children of all skill levels and sport backgrounds. The goal of the camps is to help children improve movement literacy and develop the basic skills of sports performance.

Children will participate in four sport-specific sessions per day including two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Sessions will include skill development of the following sports areas: soccer, track and field, ultimate Frisbee, football, softball and baseball.

The Spark Park will also be used for activities that will include hand-eye coordination, teamwork, cooperation and obstacle courses.

The cost of the camp is $360 per week per child, and lunch supervision is provided. (Participants must bring their own snacks and lunch).

Space for the camps is limited. For those looking to register their children for the camps, they can do so through the Ignite Athletics website at www.igniteathletics.com.
