Complex looks forward to welcoming back skaters

The Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval is going to reopen, but skaters are going have to be patient and sit through one more closed day.

Due to the extreme cold warnings issued by Environment Canada for Saskatoon, the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval will still be closed on Saturday. Environment Canada is predicting a high of -28 C for Saskatoon on Saturday with a wind chill of -48 C in the morning and -37 C in the afternoon with winds up to 15 kilometers per hour.

Under those conditions, frostbite can occur in minutes.

On Sunday, Environment Canada is predicting a high of -24 C with sunny conditions. As a result, the Oval will reopen that day for its regular public skating hours that run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Oval will be open on Monday, which is Family Day, with special public skating hours. The Monday schedule sees public skating run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Oval flooding occurs 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saskatoon Lions Speed Skating practice that is closed to the public runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and public skating resumes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Environment Canada is predicting a high of -18 C for Monday with sunny conditions.

The Oval is closed today for maintenance, as it is closed regularly on Fridays for maintenance.

We can’t wait to see everyone back out at the Oval, and we thank everyone for hanging in there patiently with us as we ride out this cold snap.
